The University of Florida supports the First Amendment right to free speech and believes our university is a place where people can and should exchange differing viewpoints or express their opinions through peaceful protest.
UF considers outdoor areas of campus as traditional public forums. In those areas, any person can engage in spontaneous or contemporaneous expressive activity so long as the person's conduct remains lawful and does not infringe upon or obstruct any other person's rights to engage in their own expressive activities. Protesting inside campus buildings, however, is prohibited, in accordance with university policy.
In order to ensure the successful and continuous functioning of the university and its administration, UF accepts petitions or requests in writing by email. Those wishing to submit their petitions can do so through freespeech@ufl.edu.
