In October 2017, the UF campus and the greater Gainesville community came together to prepare for an event that gave us the opportunity to affirm our deep-rooted values of tolerance, inclusion and diversity. A visit from Richard Spencer, a white nationalist from the National Policy Institute, brought the complex issue of free speech to the fore and served as a true teachable moment for everyone involved.
Because UF at its core is an educational institution, the Office of University Relations is eager to share our community’s experience with others – students, colleges and universities that may be grappling with similar issues, and members of the media.
To that end, we have created this Resources link on our Free Speech website. We hope you find it useful.
